The beginning

The more I work on FMS the more I realize that most of the people I deal with on a daily basis has no business lifting a weight. That includes me. We’ve spent so many years sitting at a desk that our bodies have forgotten how to move. Our stabilizer muscles haven’t been used correctly in so many years they’ve just given up. Our prime movers are having to do double duty as stabilizers. No wonder we’re just tired and in pain all the time. Fall down a lot when we try to move correctly.
Knees, hips, shoulders, lumbar, all put in positions they just weren’t supposed to be in for long periods. So as I work on my primitive movement patterns for myself and others, seeing just how bad we are at it, I have to wonder just how we get anything done at all. Sr. RKC Jeff O’Connor keeps telling me how I and others have build strength and stamina on top of a very dysfunctional body we live in compensation mode. I used sort of scoff at that. But he’s right, damn it, he’s always right.
Own your dysfunction says Jeff O’Connor Sr. RKC.
What if I don’t want to own it? I’ve already built a lot of strength on top of my dysfunction. I just want to fix it.
So now, before every training session, the very training session I probably shouldn’t even be doing until I can sort-a-maybe move at least a little bit right, I’m doing my accessory work trying to get my stabilizers working like they should be. My dear abby’s firing when they are supposed to on automatic. It’s taking longer to do my warm ups than the entire training session. Starting to wonder if I should even bother with the training session.
So today, I’m going to forgo my MAXVo2 training, same with my favorite complexes. I guess today I’m just going to roll around on the floor a lot. Now that’s progress.

Signed up for CK-FMS

I’ve been told that the next logical step from my RKC certification is the CK-FMS. Ok, it’s on. I’ve paid my money and I’m set to go. I’ve purchased the screening kit, a kit with 3 DVDs and other paraphernalia, and now I’m practicing. Just testing everyone I can throw a net over just to practice. Family is going to get tired of it pretty quick I can tell. My kettlebell classes are getting free screenings. They seem to like it even if it is just for practice. We’re already doing lots primitive pattern drills anyway so that can’t hurt.
I’m doing this under the careful tutelage of Jeff O’Connor Sr. RKC. He says do this, I do this. He says do that and I do that. That’s for my own training so this will be an extension of more of this and that. He’s been telling me to own my own dysfunction. Now I’m telling everyone else to own theirs. Funny how that works. My neck is getting red already.
Its all good. I do expect that this will be a good thing for me. At the RKC they kept telling me to go for RKC II. Jeff says no way, not until CK-FMS. After getting a few screens under my belt and Jeff screening me I reluctantly agree. Must fix a few problems first, especially in the area of thoracic mobility. Or lack of.
So off I go, owning my own dysfunction and now I’m going to drive everyone else crazy telling them to own theirs.
